The centre of the Bogan River wool-growing district in
Outback NSW 603km north-west of Sydney, Nyngan is just 70km north of the geographical centre of NSW. There is plenty in and around the town to trace the history of white settlement. The Flood Museum at the old railway station which tells the story of the 1990 flood through the words of the people who lived through the disaster. It has recently been joined in the railway complex by the mid-State Shearing Shed Museum, while the Bogan Shire Council is also establishing a Cobb & Co Workshop Museum. The Bicentennial Mural Wall, the Town Hall and Court House, which were both built round the turn of the 19th century, and the Helicopter tribute to the aircraft which played a vital role in the evacuation of the town during the big flood all present the visitor with photo opportunities. So, too, does the Pioneer Memorial sculpture of a drover and his dog working a mob of sheep. The nearby Macquarie Marshes are recognised globally as an important waterfowl and bird sanctuary.
