Peterborough is located on the Shipwreck Coast section of the famed Great Ocean Road, 13 km west of Port Campbell. The town sits at the mouth of Curdies River, with Port Campbell National Park of the eastern side of the river and the Bay of Islands Coastal Park to the west.
While these two parks contain shores of dramatically rising cliffs and treacherous waters, the beaches and bays around Peterborough are decidedly family-friendly.
The town is only small, but its proximity to the major attractions of the region, such as Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and The Twelve Apostles, makes it a fine alternative base for exploring the area, or for a stopover for those pushing on along the Great Ocean Road.
