There is no place in the world quite like Manly - just 'seven miles from Sydney and a thousand miles from care'. On its own small peninsula, it is bounded by Sydney Harbour, the Pacific Ocean and the Sydney Harbour National Park. And it can be whatever you want it to be - tranquil hideaway, a place to test yourself in magnificent surf or to bask in its natural beauty or to indulge in fine food and wine. And it is all just half an hour by ferry or 15 minutes by Jet Cat across one of the most beautiful harbours in the world from the heart of Australia’s premier and most exciting city. There are breathtaking harbour walks around Manly, heritage trails and an Oceanworld brimming with sharks, giant stingrays, seals, living corals and thousands of marine animals to explore. Sadly, the ranks of Manly's nut-brown pioneers of the surf life-saving movement who have been fixtures on the main beach for so many years are thinning and so, too, are the famous Norfolk pines that once formed an internationally recognisable avenue on the beach front.
