Coogee is an up-market beachside village in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, about 10 kilometres or so from the city centre. In the past few years there has been a resurgence of interest in the string of the oceanside suburbs, stretching from Maroubra in the south to Bondi in the north, and real estate values have gone through the roof. And why not?
There are the beaches, the city nearby and, in Coogee’s case, it’s just over the hill to that greatest of Sydney racecourses - Royal Randwick. Coogee also has the legendary Coogee Bay Hotel where you’ll find more colourful characters than in a Dickens Novel, and Coogee Oval, home of the Randwick Rugby Union Club - the peerless Galloping Greens.
There is no better way to get the feeling of Sydney's world famous southside beaches than to hop aboard the Bondi & Bay Explorer bus. In the last few years Coogee has bridged the surfside entertainment gap which kept the likes of Manly and Bondi ahead of the pack for so long, but it has done so without surrendering its seaside village atmosphere.
