Kangaroo Valley  New South Wales

Kangaroo Valley is a picturesque town nestled in a verdant valley between Cambewarra and Barrengarry Mountains in the Southern Highlands.

It was first referred to as Kangaroo Ground by surveyor James Meehan in 1819 but through the 1840’s the name gradually changed to Kangaroo Valley.

Pride of the district is the extraordinary Hampden Suspension Bridge spanning the Kangaroo River. Built in 1898, the bridge is suspended between two castellated towers.

Accommodation is available in a motel, B & Bs, cottages, cabins and a caravan park while the local hotel, restaurants and cafes cater for the inner man. A swimming pool is located in the Kangaroo Valley Showground.

Kangaroo Valley has long been a popular weekend retreat for Sydneysiders who can hire canoes or arrange overnight campouts in idyllic corners of the valley. The Pioneer Farm Museum's attractions include a dairy, smithy and horse-drawn drays and carriages. Neighbouring Hampden Cottage markets pottery and ferns from a pioneer settler's cottage.
