A 40 minute drive from Adelaide brings you to coastal cliffs overlooking a string of superb sandy beaches such as Christies.
This is the City of Onkaparinga territory, centred on historic Port Noralunga. Long a haven for cargo clippers battered by the Southern Ocean, Port Noralunga is now a safe beach favoured by snorkellers and scuba-divers.
Christies is a delightful, family swimming beach which also boasts a launching ramp for boats and crews heading for the nearby fishing grounds offshore.
A foreshore reserve is equipped with picnic facilities and the Beach Road shopping strip caters for all visitors’ needs.
If the whim takes you, get it all off at Maslims, Australia’s first nudist beach. The regional beaches below the coastal lookouts are uniformly wide, open and flat and attract a regular stream of joggers, strollers and beachcombers.
The hinterland behind the coast is ribboned by vineyards, including Old Reynella, home of Hardy's historic cellars.
