On the Mornington Peninsula, about 100km south of Melbourne’s CBD, Rosebud typifies the character-filled towns that hug the 192km of coastline in this most picturesque of locations.
Rosebud fronts the relatively calm waters of Port Phillip Bay, but it’s only a short drive to the more robust surfing beaches of Bass Strait. In and round Rosebud you’ll encounter fine restaurants, wineries, galleries, markets and antique shops.
And then there’s the remarkable scenery which you can absorb from headlands, strategically placed lookouts or from lofty peaks such as Arthurs Seat which rises from the heart of a state park. You can walk or drive to the top or you can ride the 72-seat chairlift which deposits you alongside the viewing platform, kiosk and restaurant.
The peninsula also hosts an array of fascinating galleries and craft shops and one of the greatest concentrations of quality golf courses in the land includes the twin, 18-hole layouts of the Rosebud Country Club. The club's north course is rated 16th in Victoria's top 50 public golf courses, while the south links come in at No 26.
