They reckon that if you want to get the feel of Swan Reach, there is no better perch than the Reach Hotel beer garden looking down on the majestic Murray and its attendant billabongs.
Browsing on the local tucker is optional, but you’d be a mug to pass up on freshly caught Murray cod and yabbies. The meal, in fact, completes the perfect entree to a very special stretch of the mighty Murray River.
In these parts the river is bordered by high, tree-lined cliffs and the sheltered waters provide an excellent aquatic and cruising playground.
Swan Reach might be a small riverside town, but its attractions spread far beyond the banks of the Murray. Just out of town, for example, you’ll find the animal wonderland of the Yookamurra Sanctuary. Set among ancient Mallee stands, the sanctuary is a feral animal free zone in which endangered species such as numbats, bilbies, boodies and woylies flourish in their natural habitat. Overnight accommodation enables you to take advantage of the nocturnal nature walks.
